There is nothing more RnR than the grammar used in today’s show:
“If only I’d known that when I forgot to pack my football boots it’d haunt me for the rest of my life”
Oh yes. So first of all, saying “if only” is the same as saying “I wish”, we know that though, right? The main thing here is that we are talking about the PAST, so because of that, the past perfect is used after – which is why after if only we can see I’d know (I had known).
Remember, if we talk about PRESENT wishes, we just use the past simple, so it would be if only I knew.
