In today’s show, the Hellraiser said:
“I’ve been listening to the show a lot”
Some SEXY Present Perfect Continuous (PPC) there! But WHY NOT the present perfect simple (PPS)? Could he have said “I have listened to the show a lot”..?
The answer is NO!
Why? Because when we use the PPC, we are emphasising that the action is NOT finished!
Whilst with the PPS we generally emphasise the fact that the action IS finished!
For example “I have been to London 5 times”, the action is finished here, but the TIME is not!
There are many SMALL differences between these two tenses, the best way to understand is to read more often and when you see the two different tenses, ask yourself WHY that specific tense has been used and then after a bit of time… BOOM! 👊
