Yes, time does FLY when you’re having fun and that’s exactly what we talk about in today’s show: FLYING! ✈️✈️✈️Praying to God ?, sunburn ?, sex in toilets ? PLUS lots of RnR vocab like:
I prefer the aisle seat
I don’t know how people get away with it (sex in toilets)
Someone hijacked the plane
I got used to flying
Miss the plane
I was scared of the toilet flush
You can join the mile-high club
When I’m on a plane, I sleep, snore and dribble
Don’t talk to strangers
I won’t go into that story
The sexist part of grammar was when I said:
“I used to be scared of flying, but then I got used to it“
To understand this better, here are some questions:
Was I scared of flying in the past? Yes.
Am I scared of flying now? No.
What was the process that changed this situation? I got used to it.
Note how we use GET USED TO S/T for the PROCESS of something strange (flying) becoming a little easier. Once the process is COMPLETE, we then say “I am used to it”.
Also notice that when we put a verb after ‘get used to’ or ‘am used to’ it comes in the -ing form. So now I can say:
“I got used to flying“ or “I am used to flying“
