RnR Grammar

In today’s show, when Dan was explaining the story about him entering a talent competition, he said:

“I had been practising my football skills for days”

As mentioned in the show, this is the Past Perfect Continuous. It is a real RnR tense and is obviously very similar to the Past Perfect – where we talk about 2 actions in the past and one comes before the other one (in this story, the 2 events are Dan at the competition and practising for days which obviously happened earlier).

Anyway, we use the Past Perfect Continuous here to stress the DURATION of the action. As he had been practising FOR DAYS, so it was a long action!

Use this term when you speak and your English will ROCK! ?
