After speaking about love in the last episode, Dan and I now talk about why intelligent people (like us) are single. We’re not inventing this, there are various studies that show it. Find out the reasons why and listen to stories about climbing trees, why injustice is bad and the following Rock n’ Roll vocabulary:
Keep your chin up
To make a mess of things
I wouldn’t want to put myself in the same bracket as you
Her boyfriend turned up
I have difficulty putting up with things
If it’s a half-hearted attempt
When I told Dan about the tree climbing story, he asked me:
“how long had you been going out with her?” 2 girlfriends in his life, I was quite surprised”
This is the Past Perfect Continuous. Similar to the past perfect, in the sense that it refers to 2 actions or time periods in the past (in this case the time period he was interested in was the amount of time BEFORE the tree incident).
We use the past perfect continuous, as we are interested in the amount of time / duration of time and NOT a quantity.
For example, a quantity would be something like “how many times had you played ping-pong before yesterday?”. In this example, the answer is a quantity and NOT a duration of time, so we use the normal past perfect.
