The Beatles + RnR English = MEGA EPISODE! Listen to Dan the Man and I talk about WHY The Beatles were (are) so popular and some RANDON facts – PLUS there is talk about Jesus ?, Michael Jackson eating BURGERS ?, WETTING the bed ?️, some sexy 3rd conditional ? and lots and LOTS of RnR vocabulary:
My skin is struggling
Back in the day
I’m going to have a stab at it
Girls would go to see them and wet themselves
They have catchy songs
He is barefoot
The registration plate
Linda McCartney weeps
I buried Paul
If I ordered a vegetable soup and it came with strawberries I would be a bit upset
They used to fight like cat and dog
They had a row
We managed to get over the Dairy Milk incident
It took me years to come round to him
Phil Collins is a bit of a wanker
Thanks for clearing that up
I didn’t get into The Beatles until I was 18
Do you think you will be hungover for the next show
….ROCK ON! ???
In today’s show when I told Dan that on Global Beatles Day I listened to Beatles songs all day, he replied:
“Ditto”.
As I mentioned in the show, this is usually used in (informal) writing, for example:
I like playing football
” ” ” tennis.
In the second sentence, we write ” to say ‘the same word as above’ so the second sentence reads ‘I like playing tennis‘. This piece of punctuation is called ‘ditto marks’, so we can also use this in speaking (again, in an informal context).
So if your friend says to you “I love RnR English” you can respond “ditto!” which would be the same as repeating what he / she said!
