RnR Grammar

At the beginning of the podcast, I said:

“Neither Dan nor I live in Britain at the moment”

Notice the word ‘nor’ in this sentence, we use this because we use the word ‘neither’ earlier in the sentence, so we DO NOT use the word ‘or’.

Just remember this: Neither and Nor are friends!

And Either and Or are friends!

Here are some examples:

I can speak neither Spanish nor Chinese (I can’t speak Spanish and I can’t speak Chinese)

I can’t speak either Spanish or Chinese (I can’t speak Spanish and I can’t speak Chinese)

Both are the same in meaning, but because the second example is a NEGATIVE sentence, we CAN’T use ‘neither’ as this would be a double negative!

I hope this makes sense!
