RnR Grammar

In today’s episode I said that I ‘got turned down’ many times by girls. Notice the word ‘get’ here, as the action of turning down was done by someone else (the girls) and I just ‘received’ the action. This is a passive sentence, it would be more formal to say ‘I was turned down’, but ‘get’ is often used instead of the verb ‘to be’.

If we want to make this an active sentence, we can say “I turned Martin down”… but obviously that would only come from one of the many girls that DID the action of turning me down!
