Episode 7 – Going to prison for some pasta

Before radio, TVs, iPads, mobile phones and everything else, entertainment was simply story telling and that’s exactly what this is! No Dan ‘the man’ today, so it’s just me and a true story (go to the bottom of the page to see the photo for PROOF) of how I nearly got sent to prison for eating some pasta, lots of stupid sound effects and of course some RnR vocabulary!

  1. We were a little bit tipsy

  2. I hung up the phone

  3. I was trying to call but it was engaged

  4. I finally got through to him

  5. We got away with it

RnR Grammar

At the beginning of the show I said:

“we’ve had nearly 1000 downloads”.

As mentioned in the show, this is the present perfect as the action is still in progress… BUT… if it is still in progress, why is it not the present perfect continuous?

Why not “we’ve been having”….? This is because, in this situation, have is a STATE verb and we cannot use state verbs in the present perfect continuous.

This was one of the pictures on Facebook…. as I said, it is a TRUE story!
