In today’s podcast we have a lovely piece of RnR grammar in the review:
‘To err is human’
This is a real sexy piece of vocab, but as Clarification Charlie said in the episode, it’s a very formal word.
What I want to tell you here is to be careful of when you use these words, just like you wouldn’t use an informal word (like ‘shit’) in formal situation, you should try to not use formal words in an informal situation!
Admittedly, it’s not as bad as saying ‘shit’ in a job interview, but it’s still strange! An example of this in the IELTS speaking exam, if you use words that are too formal, you will actually LOSE marks for vocabulary, as the examiner will think you don’t know the difference between when to use these words and not to.
So be safe people, wear condoms and choose your words carefully! 👊
