In today’s episode, I said “I don’t have a paedophile’s phone number on my phone, but if I DID, I wouldn’t save it as Jeffrey Paedophile”.

Did you notice how the emphatic do is in the past there? Why? Because it’s the second conditional!

Yes it can be used like this and yes it is very common! “I don’t ….., but if I DID …., I would ….” – some real RnR grammar there!
