RnR Grammar

We had some real RnR Grammar inside the RnR Vocabulary today… when John said:

“I don’t take public transport, you might think that sounds a bit snobbish but there is not public transport!”

As I mentioned in this show, we add this ‘ish’ to the end of ADJECTIVES to say ‘a little bit’.

For example, look at the following sentences:

  1. I don’t think he’s fat, I might say he’s fattish but that’s it

  2. The colour of the bus is green… well… greenish

  3. It’s hottish at the moment, not too bad

Please note that we only use this in SPOKEN English and it’s obviously NOT formal… BUT it is very common! We can say “I’ll see you at 5ish” (more or less 5).
