As always on RnR English, we look at the most important issues in the world 🌎 So that’s why we look at why what to do when you can’t remember someone’s name ❓, having imaginary arguments in your head 🧠, not getting out of bed when you need the toilet 🛏️ and much more! We also have some great stories about going to the toilet in a bottle, having covid before it was “popular”, lying to the doctor about alcohol consumption just to name a few! So put on your headphones, sit back, relax and just keeeeep on ROCKin’, baby! 👊
The RnR Vocab to look out for today:
That’s me all over
The common scumbag
I would always put it on a round number
A vicious circle
I try to sleep it off
It would be a godsend
Pleasure
It doesn’t resonate with me
In today’s podcast, I made up a new verb when I said “sleep it off”, now this (making up new phrasal verbs) is actually a common thing to do in English. For example, in this case, if you use the formula “verb + it + off”, it means “keep doing it until it goes away”, as I mention at the end of the podcast, a common example is “run it off”, so “keep running until it goes away”. Another example with “off”, it “noun + off” which means a competition. If I say “let’s have a drink off” it means “a drinking competition”, if I say “let’s have a spelling off” it means a spelling competition! As I said, this is not “correct” English, but a very funny thing to do!
